Bugzilla – Bug 114665
Graphics on Dell computer with Radeon X600 graphics card doesn't work with SuSE 9.3 and 10.0
Last modified: 2008-06-25 09:52:34 UTC
In our educationtal centre we have about 100 new Dell Optiplex GX620 computers with ATI Radeon X600 SE 128MB graphic cards. In several of our courses we let the students install and use Linux and that was planned this autumn also. But it turned out to be problematic. First I tried to install SuSE 9.3. The installation worked OK, but after rebooting the computer froze. I could start it in text mode, but the computer froze again when I tried to reconfigure the graphics system (or start it with startx from text mode). The freeze is "total", the (LCD) screen is black and mouse and keyboard don't respond. After that I tried to check if it was a "generic" Linux problem and booted a new Knoppix version and everything worked OK. So I concluded that the problem is linked to Sax and the SuSE graphics system. Therefore I downloaded SuSE 10 beta3 version. The installation worked without any problems, but after rebooting the computer froze again. As with SuSE 9.3 I could boot in text mode, but when trying to start graphics or trying to reconfigure graphics the computer froze again.

Closed until further information is being provided. If so, please reopen the bug.
mass reopening all SuSE Linux bugs that are set to REMIND+LATER to change the resolution to WONTFIX (adapting to new policy)
Closing old LATER+REMIND bugs as WONTFIX - if you still plan to work on it, feel free to reopen and set to ASSIGNED. In case the report saw repeated reopen comments, it's due to bugzilla timing out on the huge request ;(
