As a normal KDE-user after the root password supplied, under "Control Center ->
Miscellaneous" I can't look at the "/var/log/messages" file! It has only a star
before its name; clicking on it doesn't initializate any action... (The file
exists.)
Little later I found out, that on the list there is another copy of
"/var/log/messages", already at the top of it; without any star and that IS
accessible. No idea, why or how.

Thanks for the link; none of the listed solutions worked for my on beta3 :(
In made the archive 'myself', just hope, that everything is OK with the files.
The exact timepoint, when the 'bug' appeared, is included in my original
report.

Reproduced on my computer for the first try. The second one didn't show that.
