Bugzilla – Bug 115910
grubonce doesn't work on some machines
Last modified: 2006-01-09 13:08:18 UTC
"grubonce 0" does not select the entry 0 to be booted without delay for me. This makes kernel selection before suspend fail.
You told me yourself this happens on about 50% of your test machines?!
Yes. "grubonce very often does not work!!!1!elf" :-)
I'd prefer to have time to _work_ on the bug instead of discussing via bug comments.
it still happens on about half of my test machines.
It happens on my machine too, and I´d like to help finding the bug. Could I give you some system specs or something which are important?
Thanks for the offer, but I'm quite sure the problem is uninitialized memory. I have it pretty nicely reproduced in qemu. Only 640k to search :-(

I couldnt duplicate it in GM 10.0. For me it is fixed.
Not for me.
for it does not work in SUSE 10.0 box version.

Hi, I have differenr results on two machines. On my home computer I works perfectly. On my PC at work it doesnt work, neither if I use the KDE logout menu or the grubonce script on a console. grubonce says that it will use the choosed entry, but after reboot I get the graphical grub menue. Both machines are installed from the same source (Suse 10.0 eval DVD image), but they have different hardware and a different partition configuration and are both fully patched via online update. If it will useful, I would post the hardware informations you need. Steffen
On at least one of my systems it also doesn't work.
we know that it works on some machines and it doesn't on others, no further reports necessary until Torsten has identified the bug and provided a possible fix. After that we have to retest. Thanks for your cooperation :-)
The underlying problem should be fixed with grub-0.97-3
Will there be a YOU update for 10.0? Even if this bug only affects "some" (lots of?) machines, it is a critical bug IMHO. Just think of suspend2disk, booting another OS and resume with changed files on your harddisk...
Just FYI: the package from 10.1 factory works as expected on my system (grubonce from 10.0 final did not)
Christian: you'd be surprised, but there actually was a feature request aimed to allow your scenario from Comment #16 :( Note that it's still possible now, but only to people who know what they are doing ;-) I have suggested a YOU.
Let's do a YOU update for 10.0. Maintenance-Tracker-3103
released
(In reply to comment #20) > released > Hi, I´ve just installed the update and grubonce is now working as expected. Thank you!! Steffen
