Description William Nugent 2005-09-09 13:48:12 UTC
At the tail end of the installation process when it came time to configure the
Ethernet connection, no ports showed on the installation screen. Afterwards I
went into Yast2 and tried to configure the Ethernet with the same result.
Looking through the boot messages I saw the Ethernet port was showing up as well
as in lspci. So I tried manually configuring the port with ifconfig and this
worked. I then tried Yast2 again and manually configured the Ethernet "blindly"
and this worked as well.

Maybe this was my mistake but if so Yast2 is now showing the Ethernet port
differently than in Suse Linux 9.3.

BTW - OpenSuSE 10 Beta 4 flies with Athlon64 X2 4800+ - very sweet. Thank you!

Please provide the yast2-logs of your installation, if you don't know how,
please read: http://www.opensuse.org/Bug_Reporting_FAQ#YaST

Some information about the hardware (hwinfo, lspci) would also be of advantage.
Comment 2 Martin Vidner 2005-09-13 21:08:37 UTC
Most likely hwinfo provides yasyt with incomplete information about the card.
Attaching the hwinfo output should be enough.
Comment 3 Michael Gross 2005-09-19 13:39:32 UTC
I will close this bus as a reminder. For the case the needed information will be
provided, it can be reopened.
Comment 4 William Nugent 2005-09-30 03:12:51 UTC
Hi Michael,

I'm trying to get the information together but the compuer is at a remote site
on the far side of a firewall that Verizon controls...sigh. I forgot to grab
the Yast2 log and hwinfo when I stopped there today but I did remember to grab
the lspci output. Thank you for your efforts despite the half-baked efforts of
this space cadet. Bill

I think I remember seeing a NIC identified as a bridge already. Anyway, hwinfo
needed.

Hi Martin and Michael,
Sorry for the long delay on getting the files. Please let me know if there is
anything else you need because I now have remote eyes and hands which can help.
Thank you for a great product! Bill
Comment 9 Michael Gross 2005-10-04 09:23:07 UTC
Thank you... but we cannot take much credit for that ;)
The bug has been assigned.
Comment 10 Michael Gross 2005-10-04 09:28:07 UTC
Ah yes... please do at least one thing (assigning it back to us). Beta4 is
really outdated by now. Check this at least with RC1 (downloadable from
opensuse.org). If the problem resides, I'll reassign this.
Comment 11 Michael Gross 2005-10-11 15:12:54 UTC
Please reopen this bug if the required information can be provided and the
problem was not solved already.

Closing old LATER+REMIND bugs as WONTFIX - if you still plan to work on it, feel free to reopen and set to ASSIGNED.

In case the report saw repeated reopen comments, it's due to bugzilla timing out on the huge request ;(
