Bugzilla – Bug 116404
beagle doesn't autostart under KDE
Last modified: 2006-01-31 16:05:33 UTC
I installed openSuse with KDE as desktop environment. I noticed that beagle wasn't installed by default (why not?), so I installed it using Yast. Under "Configure desktop searching and indexing" I checked the box that says to run beagle at startup (or rather it was selected by default I think). However, beagle won't start when you log in to KDE the next time, i.e. F12 doesn't start best and if you start it manually it will complain that the beagle daemon isn't running.

Reopening this and targetting it at 10.1. The idea being that we might not want to start beagle by default on KDE, but it should still be possible to run it if the user wants by selecting the checkbox. We would need to patch beagle to set the default value depending on what desktop environment was being run, rather than assuming true.
we will take care of that with a KDE package
10.1 will come with KDE frontend, configuration module and use of KDE startup mechanism.
I couldn't find such stuff in 10.1 beta1. If it is not in an obvious place, please mention it in the release notes as beagle is becoming quite popular.
It's started by default and displays an icon in the system tray. If it's not there then you can start it via "System/File System/Desktop Search (Kerry Beagle)".
