Bugzilla – Bug 116448
Kopete crashes when connecting the MSN account (broken contact list/meta contact)
Last modified: 2012-03-30 14:08:35 UTC
When I connect my MSN account, Kopete crashes almost immediately. Looking at the backtrace (see attached) it seems a problem in handling meta contacts. Maybe my Kopete configuration is "broken" although I never edited it by hand, only using the UI kopete offered me.

Bug in the statistics plugin. Please disable this (Settings->Configure Plugins) to workaround while I investigate the root cause.
Going to Settings -> Configure Plugins, crashes kopete. Any way to do this by manually editing a config file?

Find or add the Plugins section to $HOME/.kde/share/config/kopeterc and set kopete_statisticsEnabled to false like this: The second crash you saw is related to the Alias plugin so turn that off too. [Plugins] kopete_statisticsEnabled=false kopete_aliasEnabled=false
kopete_aliasEnabled was already false in my configuration. I have set kopete_statisticsEnabled to false (was true) and kopete now logs in all account without crashing.
Can you still reproduce in SL10 final, by enabling statistics?
When I go to Settings -> Configure Plugins, Kopete crashes SUSE 10.0 with KDE updates from supplementary
Bavo: you're exactly the only one with that crash ;( There is not a single bug reporter on bugs.kde.org with that backtrace symtom and it's 100% inreproducible. I would love if you could do some debugging on your own, but so far: we can't help you
