Description Jean-Daniel Dodin 2005-09-15 13:34:57 UTC
I was complaining some time ago for gvim not being available and somebody
pointed me that it was only on the ftp.

so I linked Yast to the ftp and installed gvim

after the update, the ftp link was no more good (I suspected I had problems with
the "current" link, so linked directly to beta 4).

No problem until now.

But when I tried to use gvim, no luck. it was somewhat uninstalled or unlinked
and I had to re-install it from the new ftp.

so there is a problem, gvim should not have desapeared. However I don't know if
I can help you more, I had to use it and so corrected the problem manually.

may be also an enhancement would be to update the ftp link? I understand this is
tricky, but if you can acheive it, it will be impressive (see that there is a
ftp link to the previous suse and ask is a link to the new suse must be done)

thanks

Well, during update all packages from vendors "suse" or "novell" will get
updated if there is an appropriate replacement. For gvim, there is none so the
package gets deleted. There is no information in the installed package to
determine if it still will run after update.
Packages from other vendors will get 'locked' and not touched.

You might also adjust your 'update options' and choose to retain packages
without and appropriate replacement. However, then its up to you to check if
such package still run.
