iwlwifi dmesg errors

I have a T480S running an up-to-date Tumbleweed. After a reboot the WiFi interface disapered. Rebooted again, no luck. Used ethernet to upgrade iwlwifi to http://download.opensuse.org/tumbleweed/repo/oss/noarch/kernel-firmware-iwlwifi-20200716-1.1.noarch.rpm as part of zypper dup. No change.

Looked at ip addr / nmcli dev and only loopback + ethernet were present.

Looked at dmesg, found iwlwifi errors - see attached for the best I can easily do without networking on my laptop.

Downgraded to 610 via usb. Rebooted - success, it now works again.

What exactly did you downgrade to which one from which one?

I'm asking it because there is no difference regarding iwlwifi firmware files (i.e. kernel-firmware-iwlwifi) between 20200610 and later versions at all. The only possibly relevant changes are about Intel Bluetooth firmware included in kernel-firmware-bluetooth.

I installed http://download.opensuse.org/history/20200715/tumbleweed/repo/oss/noarch/kernel-firmware-iwlwifi-20200610-1.1.noarch.rpm, followed by update-bootloader and mkinitrd.

All I can say that before I did zypper in --oldpackage ....610-1.1.noarch.rpm it didn't work, after it did.

It's very odd. I verified the two packages kernel-firmware-iwlwifi-20200610 and *-20200716, and the all file contents except for WHENCE document are 100% identical. So, if it did make any change, it must be some coincidence.

Could you double-check the behavior by re-installing the new one again? (Also test the old one, too). And, make sure that it's *only* this package that is changed, nothing else.

Closing, no response. Feel free to reopen if the issue persists with the latest TW kernel.
