Description Michael Zapf 2020-09-02 18:59:30 UTC
After resuming from hibernation, DVB tuning fails consistently. VLC reports:

dtv stream error: cannot set frontend tuning parameters: Resource temporarily unavailable

The issue can be solved reproducibly by

# rmmod smipcie
# modprobe smipcie

for the DVBSky S950 DVB-S2 card, or

# rmmod budget_ci
# modprobe budget_ci

for the TECHNOTREND TT-Budget C-1501 DVB-C card

(tested with two PCs running the same Tumbleweed release)

After entering these lines, tuning works again. My request is that it should not be necessary to manually remove and load a kernel module to make tuning work again.

Not a new issue, but it remained unresolved until today.

As this is an issue on TW kernel, which is almost same as the upstream vanilla, could you report it to upstream? e.g. bugzilla.kernel.org.
Feel free to put me (tiwai@suse.de) to Cc.

OK, found the report https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=201467 that refers to another device, but with the same symptoms.

There has been no development in upstream bugzilla. Michael, does the issue still exist with the latest TW kernel?
Comment 4 Michael Zapf 2021-12-31 14:22:54 UTC
Yes, just tried. After hibernation I have to execute rmmod smipcie; modprobe smipcie to get DVB tuning again.
Comment 5 Miroslav Beneš 2022-01-03 08:54:46 UTC
Pity. I am afraid we cannot help much with these drivers unless the upstream comes up with a solution.
