Description Danny Al-Gaaf 2005-09-21 07:52:25 UTC
If you start gpm with 'rcgpm start' you get only a error message:

selene:/home/danny # rcgpm start
Neither the variables MOUSEDEVICE and MOUSETYPE nor the variable GPM_PARAM
is set in /etc/sysconfig/mouse

gpm should work out of the box!
Comment 1 Dr. Werner Fink 2005-09-21 09:17:39 UTC
Agree, but IMHO this is not a blocker.
Comment 2 Michal Marek 2005-09-21 12:41:07 UTC
rcgpm has been working this way since a log time and no one complained. I could
use some works-in-most-cases default (/dev/input/mice), but I don't consider
this "Critical".

BTW /etc/sysconfig/mouse is written by YaST, it's not part of the gpm package.
Comment 3 Danny Al-Gaaf 2005-09-21 13:01:41 UTC
This worked fine with 9.3 (This is not so long ago.), I didn't find the bug
before, because I need this only sometimes.

Btw. this should work out-of-the-box. Maybe reassign to the yast guys? I think
the problem is: yast select per default no longer a mouse, but install gpm.
Maybe YaST should preselect a mouse while intallation or don't install gpm or
you add some default paths to gpm.
Comment 4 Danny Al-Gaaf 2005-09-21 13:05:32 UTC
To select a mouse in yast fix this. As above sad: yast should select by default
a mouse or not install gpm
Comment 5 Kang-Jin Lee 2005-10-13 16:46:19 UTC
Any chance to get this bug fixed?
Comment 6 Michal Marek 2005-10-14 14:09:19 UTC
Not by me, it's probably a YaST bug -> changing component to YaST2.
Comment 7 Michael Gross 2005-10-14 14:32:10 UTC
This is known. Mouse-configuration for GPM is no longer done automatically --
don't blame me. If you want it back, create an enhancement bug for the component
Yast2. Closing this because this is not a bug at all.
Comment 10 Michael Gross 2005-10-14 18:59:35 UTC
This bug was marked as a duplicate of bug #114919
Also take a look at bug #116099, which is also related to this. And there are several more.
