Description José Iván López González 2021-03-05 12:17:30 UTC
Created attachment 846836 [details]

Some sentences would fit perfectly in one line and they are in two. Examples:
   - On system role dialogs the text on the top
   - Warning when clicking back on the Expert partitioner
   - Warning username blank

NOTE: Yast2::Popup now supports auto-wrapping, so manually added line-breaks are not useful anymore. But modifying it affects translations.

We have discussed the time-frame for doing this.

We are not sure whether it's a good idea to change the strings now targeting SLE-15-SP3 because of the risk of breaking the translations. The only change would be the removal of some "\n" marks.

We know/suspect Stanislav has some tool/script to automatically adjust all the translations after minor format changes like that removal of newline characters.

If that's the case, we will change the strings that are visible during installation. If not, we will wait until SLE-15-SP3 is out.

So the question goes to Stanislav, does such tool exist? Can we adjust the newlines in some SLE-15-SP3 installer strings without producing any major breakage in the translations?

Such tool does not exist, and each such case has to be handled manually.

I probably have some scripts saved from the past.

There is a tool called msgfilter, which allows to create such tools programmatically.
