Description Tristan Miller 2021-04-27 11:53:53 UTC
+++ This bug was initially created as a clone of Bug #1179010 +++

Please update the SeaMonkey packages in Leap 15.2 to the SeaMonkey 2.53.7.1 package provided by the mozilla/seamonkey package on OBS: <https://build.opensuse.org/package/show/mozilla/seamonkey>

Leap 15.2 currently packages SeaMonkey 2.53.5.1, which uses the same backend as Firefox 60.8 and Thunderbird 60.0 and contains backports of important security fixes from Firefox 78.4 ESR. The latest version of SeaMonkey, 2.53.7.1, released on 15 April 2021, is based on these same versions of Firefox and Thunderbird, but has backported all the important security fixes from Firefox 78.8 ESR.

The build for the Leap 15.2 package at https://build.opensuse.org/package/show/openSUSE:Maintenance:16186/seamonkey.openSUSE_Leap_15.2_Update fails as "unresolvable" due to a missing Rust dependency. According to an e-mail to me from Marcus Meissner on 5 May, this is because the mozilla repository references a "rust 1.47" repository which is not yet available for Leap 15.2. It's therefore necessary to bootstrap a newer rust for Leap 15.2.

Marcus indicated that he would try to do this in mid-May but I haven't heard from him since then (even after sending a reminder). Can someone else provide the necessary Rust repository? (I'm surprised that one doesn't already exist, since I would have thought that the Firefox package, which does build, also depends on a newer version of Rust.)
