Description Stanislav Brabec 2005-09-23 10:18:17 UTC
Even if cache dir exists, starting squid from init script returns following error.

/etc/init.d/squid start returned 1 (unknown error)
Starting WWW-proxy squid (/var/cache/squid)/etc/init.d/squid: line 64:
9741 Aborted $SQUID_BIN -z -F >/dev/null 2>&1
 - Could not create cache_dir !
..failed

User has no evidence, why it does not start until squid is started directly from
command line. Then you will see completely different (and acurrate and easy to
fix) message:

FATAL: Could not determine fully qualified hostname. Please set
'visible_hostname'

After setting of visible_hostname and unique_hostname it works.
