Start KBear - it includes a "kbearsitemanagerdaemon" systray widget that  
makes the system tray panel applet expand to the maximum horizontal space 
available, and makes all applets disappear from a vertical Kicker.  
 
It's just a vanilla KSystemTray though, could it have something to do with the 
parent widget (kapp->mainWidget() here)?
