Bugzilla – Bug 1190975
VUL-0: CVE-2021-41617: openssh-openssl1,openssh: privilege escalation when AuthorizedKeysCommand/AuthorizedPrincipalsCommand are configured
Last modified: 2024-11-25 04:38:05 UTC
sshd in OpenSSH 6.2 through 8.x before 8.8, when certain non-default configurations are used, allows privilege escalation because supplemental groups are not initialized as expected. Helper programs for AuthorizedKeysCommand and AuthorizedPrincipalsCommand may run with privileges associated with group memberships of the sshd process, if the configuration specifies running the command as a different user. Created attachment 854015 [details] backport of CVE-2021-41617 patchset FYI, I got an L3 request to fix CVE-2021-41617 on 12-SP5. I backported the upstream fixes to 12-SP5 (relatively trivial), and while on it, I also backported the fixes to 11, 15-SP0, 15-SP1, 15-SP2 and 15-SP3, so attaching them here, hopping that helps.
Thanks, Gabriele and Ali. Submitted for: SUSE:SLE-11-SP1:Update/openssh SUSE:SLE-11-SP3:Update/openssh SUSE:SLE-11-SP4:Update/openssh SUSE:SLE-12-SP2:Update/openssh SUSE:SLE-12-SP4:Update/openssh SUSE:SLE-12:Update/openssh SUSE:SLE-15-SP1:Update/openssh SUSE:SLE-15-SP2:Update/openssh SUSE:SLE-15-SP3:Update/openssh SUSE:SLE-15:Update/openssh Not submitted for: openSUSE:Factory/openssh - now has a newer unaffected version SUSE:Carwos:1/openssh - not gotten from mbranch. Is this needed?
(In reply to Hans Petter Jansson from comment #4) > Thanks, Gabriele and Ali. > > Submitted for: > SUSE:SLE-15-SP3:Update/openssh Many thanks Hans, for 15-SP3, I would also include the fix for bug 1183137, it is a tiny one line fix from 'OpenBSD 6.8 errata 015'.
