Bugzilla – Bug 119240
Explain Contents of Installation Media (DVD/CD-ROMs)
Last modified: 2006-03-24 16:12:10 UTC
Please add something along these lines to the manual (for more info see bug 70885 ): <sect3 id="contents_media" status="2005-09-28"> <title>On Contents of DVD and CD-ROM Media</title> <para> &suselinux; can be installed from either the DVD or a set of CD-ROM media. However, a DVD can hold much more data than 5 CDs or in other words not all packages fit on the CD-ROMs, only those users install most often. An overview listing differences can be found at <ulink url="http://www.novell.com/products/linuxpackages/professional/diff_cd_dvd.html" />.</para> <para> If your system lacks a DVD drive and you need a certain package, either put the DVD in another machine connected with your network and mount it remotely for installation or with &yast; select a publically FTP server as an installation source.</para> </sect3>
Too late now for SL10.1. Reassigning to reporter.
Andreas, do you want us to describe the installation media in the release notes once again? It does not seem possible to add this info to the printed manual, because we have to deliver it that early.
Yes, please add it again...
I propose this section; I guess, the contents of CD6 is not available on the DVD (or do we ship 2 DVDs?): <!-- bug 119240 --> <sect3 id="contents_media" status="2006-03-23"> <title>About Contents of DVD and CD-ROM Media</title> <para> &suselinux; can be installed from either the DVD or a set of CD-ROM media. Find an overview listing the differences at <ulink url="http://www.novell.com/products/linuxpackages/professional/diff_cd_dvd.html" />. For information about CD6 with binary-only software, see above section "Add-On CD-ROM with Binary-Only Software." </para> <para> If your system lacks a DVD drive and you need a certain package, either put the DVD in another machine connected with your network and mount it remotely for installation or use &yast; to select a public FTP server as an installation source.</para> </sect3>
CD6 is part of DVD9.
