Bugzilla – Bug 119471
Blank CD needs more options
Last modified: 2005-10-12 19:41:22 UTC
When I insert a blank CD I get the option to make an "audio cd" or a "data cd", but I don't get an option to "burn CD image". Consequently I always have to hit the [ Ignore ] button, find my iso, right-click and choose "write to CD". Why can't that be an option when I insert the CD?
fejj: do you know of any apps with that capability?
well, technically you can already do this. Just change the "data cd" command to whatever program you use to burn your iso images.
All CD burning apps should do this. k3b does, for example. And nautilus-cd-burner does too. If you drag a single ISO file into the nautilus burn window, it should duplicate the ISO onto the disk.
Ok. So if I click on [ Data CD ] I get a window that says "Blank CD ROM". There is no indication what to do next.... So since I'm a technical kind of guy I open another nautilus window, find the ISO I want to burn and drag it into the window. I look for some action button to burn it.... and I don't see it. So being a technical I guy I play around a bit, and find an arrow in the upper, right corner. When i click on the down-arrow I see a button that says "Burn to Disc". Sweet! Then it says something to the effect of, "...if you do this you will burn a single file to disk! Are you sure that is what you want to do?!" Then I have three buttons that same something like [ Burn a single file ], [ Cancel ] and [ Burn an image ]. Since I'm a technical guy I can figure out which option I want. However, this process is less than intuitive. There should be much more instruction here. Has Anna's group looked at this at all?
There is already a bug on making the window say something, bug 117207. Anna's group decided on the buttons to make available and the text of the buttons.
I guess we're closing this?
