Bugzilla – Bug 119797
Compaq Monitor MV920 is not recognized
Last modified: 2005-10-08 02:30:37 UTC
My monitor is a Compaq MV920 and is not in your list. Fedora Core and Ubuntu had no problem to identify the monitor. This is not just with SuSE 9.3 and 10.0 but no SuSE installation has ever recognized that Compaq monitor which is a 19 inch monitor. My setup Section "Monitor" DisplaySize 340 270 HorizSync 28-96 Identifier "Monitor[0]" ModelName "MV920 COLOR MONITOR" Option "DPMS" VendorName "COMPAQ" VertRefresh 50-160 UseModes "Modes[0]" EndSection
Can you please attach /var/log/YaST2? (see http://www.opensuse.org/Bug_Reporting_FAQ#YaST)
Created attachment 51358 [details] Requested file Here is the requested information. It is a little big so I compressed the directory.
The log doesn't help a lot unfortunately. Could you please provide the information from the command: hwinfo --monitor to be called as user root Thanks
Created attachment 51588 [details] MV920 Monitor spec file This file has the correct information which hwinfo was not able to get.
hwinfo --monitor 34: None 00.0: 10000 Monitor [Created at monitor.87] Unique ID: rdCR.IScy3XmM5N8 Hardware Class: monitor Model: "COMPAQ MV920" Vendor: CPQ "COMPAQ" Device: eisa 0x3027 "COMPAQ MV920" Serial ID: "912GA23NC481" Size: 36x27 cm Resolution: 720x400@70Hz Resolution: 640x480@60Hz Resolution: 640x480@75Hz Resolution: 800x600@75Hz Resolution: 832x624@75Hz Resolution: 1024x768@75Hz Resolution: 1280x1024@75Hz Resolution: 640x480@85Hz Resolution: 800x600@85Hz Resolution: 1024x768@85Hz Resolution: 1152x864@85Hz Driver Info #0: Max. Resolution: 1280x1024 Vert. Sync Range: 50-160 Hz Hor. Sync Range: 30-96 kHz Config Status: cfg=no, avail=yes, need=no, active=unknown As you can see the information is partly incorrect. The installer didn't find the monitor in its list. Even if he did find it would most likely would have refused to give me the resolution I want because it was not able to find the right max resolution.
Thanks for this information. I added the missing entry to the database: +#============================================== +# MV920 +#---------------------------------------------- +COMPAQ:MV920 { + DDC=CPQ3027 + Option=DPMS + Hsync=30-96 + Resolution=1280x1024 + Vsync=50-160 +}
You sniff program does not recognize the resolution correctly. This is why I also gave you the pdf file. Your sniff program thinks that 1280x1024 is the highest resolution, this is an error. The highest resolution is 1600x1200 which is the one I use and it works very well. It is annoying to have to correct that because the install program thinks that it is not possible to have the requested resolution. The Compaq manual gives those data : MONITOR TYPE Colour, multi-frequency MONITOR CHASSIS 96 kHz digital SCREEN SIZE 19" flat square VIEWABLE IMAGE AREA 18.0" DOT PITCH 0.26 mm dot pitch DISPLAY RESOLUTIONS 1600 x 1200 75 Hz (max resolution) 1280 x 1024 75 and 85 Hz (max flicker-free) 1024 x 768 70, 75 and 85 Hz 800 x 600 75 and 85 Hz 640 x 480 60 and 85 Hz TEXT MODE 720 x 400 70 Hz HORIZONTAL FREQUENCY 30 96 kHz VERTICAL FREQUENCY 50 160 Hz
