Bugzilla – Bug 1198330
VUL-0: CVE-2022-28893: kernel-source: Linux kernel: Use after free in SUNRPC subsystem
Last modified: 2023-01-18 17:37:10 UTC
The SUNRPC subsystem in the Linux kernel through 5.17.2 can call xs_xprt_free before ensuring that sockets are in the intended state. It seems the bug was introduced by a73881c96d73ee72b7dbbd38a6eeef66182a8ef7 [0]. Therefore only the branches with this commit are affected: - SLE15-SP3 - SLE15-SP4 - SLE15-SP4-GA - cve/linux-5.3 - stable [0] https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git/commit/?id=a73881c96d73ee72b7dbbd38a6eeef66182a8ef7
Vasant, what is the status of this bug, please? It seems that SLE15-SP3 has not been updated yet. It would be nice to get it there via cve/linux-5.3 but it is not strictly necessary. Feel free to do the backport directly for SLE15-SP3 if there are too many conflicts between cve/linux-5.3 and SLE15-SP3 branches.

Hi Petr, I have applied the patches to SLE15-SP4-GA and cve/linux-5.3. I thought automatic merges will take care of SLE15-SP3 and SLE15-SP4. Do I need to explicitly backport the patches to these branches as well?

Denis, Oscar, you seem to be maintainers of both cve/linux-5.3 and SLE15-SP3 kernel branches. Could you please merge users/vkarasulli/cve/linux-5.3/for-next? Or is there any problem with this branch, please?

Thanks Oscar. My understanding is that all affected branches have the fix now. Reassigning back to the security team.
