Bugzilla – Bug 119987
Mouse interactions / pointer disabled on KDE sometimes after screensaver
Last modified: 2005-11-24 17:28:49 UTC
Hi, I've a lot of times, but not any time a problem when I exit from the screensaver. I can see the mouse pointer anymore and if I try to click and mouve a lot, there isn't any behaviour on the screen so this is not only the mouse pointer that is hidden but the whole mouse that didn't respond. I've tried to switch to a console(ALT + Fx key) then switch back to X but there is no difference. I'm forced to restart X in order to get the mouse pointer again.
this sounds like a driver problem to me
Could you add /etc/X11/xorg.conf and /var/log/Xorg.0.log?

Comment on attachment 51379 [details] xorg.conf Here is the Xorg.conf The log file will follow as soon as the bug is reproduced
Also send /var/log/Xorg.0.log.old after reproducing this bug.
Hi, Sorry for the delay, the bug made a time to happen again and I've spend several days on Ubuntu but I definitively like SuSE. I think I'll stick with it and continue to help ;o) Here is the Xorg.0.log.old and I've noticed this line : Synaptics DeviceOff called Here it is. This is called automaticcaly sometimes when in screensaver.

Ok. If it's really related to the synaptics driver it shouldn't happen any more when the synaptics driver is not in use. Could you reconfigure X to standard mouse driver only? Should be possible with SaX2.
I've tried and still have the problem. Here is what I've done : In Sax2, I have two tabs "Mouse 1" and "Mouse 2". I've disabled the first pointer which is seen as "Synaptics Touchpad" but I've let the one from the second tab "ImPS/2 Generic Wheel Mouse". I will attach the Xorg.0.log.old and the new xorg.conf

Ok. Then it's not related to the synaptics driver at all. Maybe it's the nvidia driver. Question is, does it work when using the nv driver. Call "switch2nv" for this. Attention, switching back to nvidia driver is not that easy! Inside YOU enable "Installable and Installed Patches" for "Show Patch Category" and select "Download NVIDIA(r) Graphics Driver" from the patches list (usually at the bottom of the list). Note, that you need to mark it as "Update" (right mouse click) if you already installed it before and the driver was uninstalled - for any reason.
No feedback --> WONTFIX.
I would like to continue investigating this - at least up to the point were we can be sure it's related to the NVIDIA proprietary driver. Florent, if you feel like you would like to continue discussing this please reopen this bug. I would like to come back to the original report: > I can see the mouse pointer anymore and if I try to click and mouve a lot, there > isn't any behaviour on the screen so this is not only the mouse pointer that is > hidden but the whole mouse that didn't respond. > Can you see anyting happen at all on the screen? Ie. some icon that changes periodically, or text appear in the window when you type that had the focus last?
Hi, Sorry for the delay. As the bug is'nt systematic, I have wait to see if it happens again (moreover, I've switch to another distro). But, when I've disabled the NVIDIA proprietary driver, the bug didn't seem to happen anymore (almost in one or two week of running).
How about my second question: > Can you see anyting happen at all on the screen? Ie. some icon that changes > periodically, or text appear in the window when you type that had the focus > last? Do you remember what happened?
