Description Andreas Klein 2005-10-06 21:18:07 UTC
Booting the 10.0 final from network is not possible.
- boot the machine from the network card (PXE)
- pxelinux.0 is loaded without problems from the tftp-server
- the kernel begins to load from the network from the tftp-server
- before loading of the kernel is finished, weird symbols start blinking on the
  monitor
- the machine hangs

This worked fine with all betas including RC1 !!!!!!

This feature is absolutely necessary, when installing large clusters with autoyast.
Comment 1 Thorsten Kukuk 2005-10-07 05:26:06 UTC
And works fine for me.
Does it work if you install from CD?
Comment 2 Andreas Klein 2005-10-07 07:29:28 UTC
Yes, booting from DVD works.
I just tried again RC1 and it still works.
The GM does not work. I tried on Tyan S2885, on a Tyan single Opteron board, on
the Tyan Tiger dual Athlon MP and on one Asus board with P3.
Network cards were: broadcom, intel e1000, rtl8139, and VIA Rhine.
All of these machines can boot all betas and the RC1, but all of them refuse to
boot the GM.

Assinging to Thorsten in the hope that this is OK ;)
Comment 5 Michael Gross 2005-11-02 16:44:06 UTC
Sorry this bug got lost, because it was assigned directly to me rather than the screening-team.

Uwe: Can you help here? If not, assign it back to the BNC-Team. Thanks.
Comment 6 Uwe Gansert 2005-11-02 16:49:00 UTC
I did a lot of pxe boots with SL10.0 RC4.
I can't imagine what's going wrong there - sorry.

Comment 7 Michael Gross 2005-11-02 17:06:55 UTC
OK then I'm forced to close this bug.
Andreas: Obviously this bug cannot be reproduced, which makes it virtually impossible to fix for us. Sorry.
Comment 8 Andreas Klein 2005-11-08 12:53:58 UTC
I just recompiled the kernel. Then I moved my kernel and the initrd with the modules from my kernel to the installation server and it works.
