Description Cathy Hu 2023-03-06 10:22:58 UTC
CVE-2023-27561

runc through 1.1.4 has Incorrect Access Control leading to Escalation of
Privileges, related to libcontainer/rootfs_linux.go. To exploit this, an
attacker must be able to spawn two containers with custom volume-mount
configurations, and be able to run custom images. NOTE: this issue exists
because of a CVE-2019-19921 regression.

Comment 1 Cathy Hu 2023-03-06 10:39:38 UTC
This should be the fix, but it was not merged yet upstream:
https://github.com/opencontainers/runc/pull/3756
Comment 2 Cathy Hu 2023-03-06 12:10:56 UTC
The fix for CVE-2019-19921 is in all relevant codestreams:

The fix for CVE-2021-30465 is applied only to these:
- SUSE:SLE-12:Update/runc 1.1.4
- SUSE:SLE-15:Update/runc 1.1.4
- openSUSE:Factory/runc 1.1.4

That means, all runc codestreams are definitely affected:
- SUSE:SLE-12:Update/runc 1.1.4
- SUSE:SLE-15:Update/runc 1.1.4
- openSUSE:Factory/runc 1.1.4

And I am currently clarifying in bnc#1185405 if we are missing CVE-2021-30465 for docker-runc:
- SUSE:SLE-12:Update/docker-runc 1.0.0
- SUSE:SLE-15:Update/docker-runc 1.0.0
If so, please make sure to submit the fix for CVE-2021-30465 and CVE-2023-27561 together.
