Description Carlos López 2023-07-24 08:31:10 UTC
CVE-2023-3611

An out-of-bounds write vulnerability in the Linux kernel's net/sched: sch_qfq
component can be exploited to achieve local privilege escalation.

The qfq_change_agg() function in net/sched/sch_qfq.c allows an out-of-bounds
write because lmax is updated according to packet sizes without bounds checks.

We recommend upgrading past commit 3e337087c3b5805fe0b8a46ba622a962880b5d64.

Comment 1 Carlos López 2023-07-24 08:43:16 UTC
462dbc9101ac ("pkt_sched: QFQ Plus: fair-queueing service at DRR cost") was introduced in 3.8, so the following are affected:
- cve/linux-4.4
- cve/linux-4.12
- cve/linux-5.3
- SLE15-SP4
- stable

The fix is already in master.
Comment 2 Carlos López 2023-07-24 08:44:01 UTC
For the record, talking to the affected subsystem is done via a netlink socket (at least on my system) which is considered to be a trusted interface from the kernel side. An attacker must have CAP_NET_ADMIN or a nonstandard configuration where something like /usr/sbin/tc has the SUID bit set.

Looks that 15-SP5 also doesn't have patch:

- SLE15-SP5

Hi Michal,

Because this issue relates to net/sched. Could you please help to handle it?

If this is not in your area, just reset but assigner to kernel-bugs@suse.de. Kernel Security Sentinel will find other expert.

Thanks a lot!
Comment 8 Michal Kubeček 2023-07-28 19:58:48 UTC
