Description Lars Hennig 2023-09-20 12:59:15 UTC
After the update of the kernel-default packages I cannot login with the fingerprint sensors that always worked before and the LAN connection is also failing.
After downgrading to 5.14.21-150500.55.19-default all works fine again
Comment 1 Andreas Stieger 2023-09-20 13:09:53 UTC
Provide logs please, see https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Bugreport_kernel
Comment 2 Takashi Iwai 2023-09-20 13:14:26 UTC
In this case, please give the output of dmesg from both working and non-working cases. Also the output of hwinfo from both cases.

Please use attachments.

Comment 5 Lars Hennig 2023-09-20 13:26:36 UTC
Providing the outputs of the not-working setup is somewhat difficult as I need my system productively and I do not have a test system to reproduce the error.

Working in the old ones
Comment 8 Matthias Eckermann 2023-09-21 07:26:54 UTC
This not only affects Dell, but also my Thinkpad T14s lost connection to its docking station.

Would be helpful if you can give the logs from both working and non-working cases. For now, I can't judge at all due to the missing logs.

Is this related: https://lists.opensuse.org/archives/list/support@lists.opensuse.org/thread/BD7Y6DDGPMSCMZDVH3262R3BSR7IOKJB/ ?

And these 2 lines are added to /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules:

Comment 16 Marcus Meissner 2023-09-21 08:56:59 UTC
SLES 15 SP4, SP5 and Leap 15.4 and 15.5 kernels are being marked as retracted now.
Comment 19 Jiri Kosina 2023-09-21 10:41:37 UTC
The kernel with candidate fix (based directly on top of the retracted 15.4 / 15-SP4 kernel) is now building here:

   https://build.opensuse.org/project/monitor/home:jkosina:bsc1215553-1215522

Once the builds succeed, please test the kernel and report back.

x86_64 builds are done and the kernel for testing can be obtained here:

For me this is not working as the package versions seem to be for Leap 15.4, hence zypper does not identify any updated version of the kernel packages from your repo.

Ah, right. Purely for testing/verification purposes, you can just grap the kernel-default RPM directly and install it via rpm manually, and then reboot into the new kernel, i.e.

rpm -ivh https://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/jkosina:/bsc1215553-1215522/pool/x86_64/kernel-default-5.14.21-150400.1.1.g6271d90.x86_64.rpm

Fingerprint sensor works for me, LAN interface, too.
So far I do not see any behavior as with the kernel package from the update repo.
Comment 34 Jiri Kosina 2023-09-25 09:08:25 UTC
The affected kernel update has been retracted and verified fix has been submitted. Closing.
