Bugzilla – Bug 1217148
download.opensuse.org is down since yesterday
Last modified: 2023-11-16 12:31:04 UTC
I am not sure I filed this bug in the correct Product/Component ; of course, if I didn't, please move it. If bug 1211646 is RESOLVED WORKSFORME, this is not it. • "zypper lu" (and also "zypper -v lu") times out on all Tumbleweed repositories located at download.opensuse.org, but not on Packman. • Trying to access download.opensuse.org in my browser times out too. • I had this solidly yesterday all afternoon, went to sleep in the hope that it would solve itself while I slept, but it didn't. • status.opensuse.org is dated "Thursday 8:00 - 10:00" which is almost a week (and possibly more) out-of-date. FWIW, I am in Brussels (Belgium) with both IPv4 and IPv6 access, and I'm not sure what my IP addresses are on the street side of my fiber modem/router.
P.S. • As a last resort, I tried rebooting, with no success. • "zypper ps" gives nothing unusual, but I suppose this is expected.
P.P.S. https://www.bandwidthplace.com/ tells me that my IPv6 IP is 2a02:a03f:64bb:3801:f22f:74ff:fe1d:e98a and that my Internet speed between here and Amsterdam is 12 ms for ping, 332 Mbps for upload and 702 Mbps for download.
Works fine here and from multiple sites. May I recommend that you walk your machine to your local LUG or someone with both the patience and network knowledge to identify site-local problems. Closing, bugzilla is not the right place to handle this.

Closing, bugzilla is not the > right place to handle this. Haha. According to linux.org, the five LUGs nearest to Brussels, Belgium are, by order of increasing distance, in Rochester NY, Bucks County PA, Philadelphia PA, Des Moines IA and Beijing China. I can't afford to travel with my desktop PC to any of them.
Bugzilla is not the best place to track your travel constraints, either. Please find someone who can diagnose local problems, in order to report something useful.
Meeting tomorrow: https://www.bxlug.be/ good luck!
(In reply to Andreas Stieger from comment #6) > Meeting tomorrow: https://www.bxlug.be/ > good luck! Thanks, I have posted my problem on their mailing list and also on their libera.chat #bxlug chatroom, but the linux.org forum seems more active. Not that I'm making much progress (yet) but at least we can knock down some investigation tracks.
SOLVED: There was a line in my /etc/hosts for download.opensuse.hosts with a wrong IPv4 address (195.135.221.134 instead of 195.135.223.226). After removing that line, zypper works again.
Recommend that you adopt a habit of investing a bit more time until you have a verifiable bug report.
