[doc] Issue in "SUSE Linux Enterprise Server on DVD"
Last modified: 2023-12-11 17:57:42 UTC
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server on DVD: https://susedoc.github.io/doc-sle/main/single-html/SLES-deployment/#sec-prep-makeavail-linuxws-oncd Imho this is a good place to add a text about "ssh -x" reported as https://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1216867
Thank you for reporting this bug! It is being tracked and processed as part of our queue.
It's probably the right place to add this information, however I don't quite understand which Xserver's config needs to be changed here. The one of the x86 workstation, right? If we provide a bootable x86 image for the workstation as part of the Z installation media, shouldn't it be preconfigured to accept connections from the Z machine? The necessary xorg.conf.d snipped could be in an xorg-x11-server subpackage, which is part of the bootable image and therefor no further configuration or documentation were required. We can still document it for people who do not use the bootable image but a different workstation, but IHMO the image we ship should work out of the box. Does this make sense?
(In reply to Christoph Wickert from comment #2) > It's probably the right place to add this information, however I don't quite > understand which Xserver's config needs to be changed here. The one of the > x86 workstation, right? > The client x86_64 xserver config needs to be changed. It's also true for Wayland. > If we provide a bootable x86 image for the workstation as part of the Z > installation media, shouldn't it be preconfigured to accept connections from > the Z machine? > I have no clue if we provide bootable x86_64 images for Z. We do not from what device is customer connected. I would prefer to have it documented. > The necessary xorg.conf.d snipped could be in an xorg-x11-server subpackage, > which is part of the bootable image and therefor no further configuration or > documentation were required. The same thing will be needed for Wayland. Maybe we should ask for input from Desktop people.
(In reply to Marcela Maslanova from comment #3) > I have no clue if we provide bootable x86_64 images for Z. We do. From the very section of the documentation you linked: "The first installation medium of the SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for IBM Z contains a bootable Linux image for Intel-based workstations and an image for IBM Z." However there are a few issues with the image, see bug 1217904. > We do not from > what device is customer connected. I would prefer to have it documented. Makes sense, stay tuned. > The same thing will be needed for Wayland. Maybe we should ask for input > from Desktop people. Yes please. Once you know more, please let me know.
Fixed in main with https://github.com/SUSE/doc-sle/commit/767aefe4831bb1002c5d6529df4d68abf8c633a9 Feeback welcome! I'm not doing any other branches until I know which SLE / package versions are affected. I have asked the X server maintainer in bug 1216867 comment 5 with NEEDINFO.
After Stefan's response I backported the changes to maintenance/SLE15SP5: https://github.com/SUSE/doc-sle/commit/f4815919 maintenance/SLE15SP4: https://github.com/SUSE/doc-sle/commit/c1b8bdff
