Bugzilla – Bug 1217419
mumble doesn't connect to pulseaudio interface
Last modified: 2023-11-25 20:05:02 UTC
Unfortunately, now (mumble-1.5.517-1.3) can not connect to the pulseaudio-server anymore and is not usable as it is. Available connections are: ALSA, Jack, pipewire and portaudio but with none of them I can get any sound in or out of mumble. There is no "mumble" in the pavucontrol visible. With the snap-version everything still works. https://snapcraft.io/install/mumble/opensuse
Reassigned to package maintainer.

Thanks for the comment. Now I understand the issue. To explain why I was completely confused. This is not an mumble issue, but a tumbleweed-upgrade issue. I have many tumblweed computers running and many for many years. Over the years pulseaudio was deprecated and pipewire as a standard. But only for new installations of tumbleweed. Now, I learned that I have to actively deinstall pulseaudio and install pipewire and pipewire and pipewire-pulseaudio. This was not done automatically on my systems. When I do this, then everything is fine again. Sorry, again for blaming mumble!
Well it was disabled in the package. Enabling it does not seem to add any run-time dependencies. So why not support it. Please check mumble-1.5.517-197.1 from https://build.opensuse.org/package/show/games:tools/mumble
Yes, I can see the pulseaudio again. But I switched my systems to pipewire in the meantime :-) Still, if I switch to pulseaudio in mumble, everything still works as expected! Thank you very much!
