Description Katarina Machalkova 2005-10-09 13:00:49 UTC
Trying to install SL10 on IBM ThinkPad R52 (both DVD-ROM and disc seem to be on
SATA controller - mounted as sr0 and sda respectively).
Last thing I see on the main screen is
"Activation of PCMCIA devices... failed"

On kernel log console:
oops: card manager didn't start
insmod /modules/libata.ko
insmod /modules/ahci.ko
insmod /modules/ata_piix.ko

On dmesg console:
scsi1: ata_piix
Vendor: HL-DT-ST Model: DVD-ROM GDR8082N Rev: 0K03
Type: CD-ROM ANSI SCSI revision:05
sr0: scsi3-mmc drive 10x/24x cd/rw xa/form2 cdda tray
Uniform CD-ROM driver Revision: 3.20
Attached scsi generic sg1 at scsi1, channel 0, id 0, lun 0, type 5

and then it hangs.
Sorry I don't provide any further info, but if it hangs this early, I cannot get
any output such as hwinfo from root console (on Alt-F2 screen)

Did you try a "failsafe" boot?
Comment 2 Katarina Machalkova 2005-10-10 14:05:07 UTC
I did, have the same problem. Even LiveDVD with SuSE 10 does not boot.
Comment 3 Hubert Mantel 2005-10-19 14:54:30 UTC
So this one if for you, Jens. I'm lowering SEVERITY; the product is already shipped, so it cannot be a BLOCKER.
Comment 4 Jens Axboe 2006-09-12 12:56:44 UTC
Reopen for 10.1 if the bug still exists.
