Bugzilla – Bug 1218815
Unwanted "^@" output on tty interfere login
Last modified: 2024-03-15 11:13:59 UTC
For some reason I have on recent Tumbleweed (20231221) problems to log to tty due something printing ^@ during login. It prints every few seconds (visible in login), thus after some time typing enough helped to login (output stops), but it's something which is really problematic and should be fixed.
The problem persists, causing system with no xorg/wayland very hard to login.
NOTE: I tested KDE upstream live DVD [1] and problem is not there. It's really our bug in Tumbleweed. [1] https://files.kde.org/neon/images/user/20240215-0716/neon-user-20240215-0716.iso
NOTE: I verified this only on Tumbleweed KDE live DVD (https://download.opensuse.org/tumbleweed/iso/openSUSE-Tumbleweed-KDE-Live-x86_64-Current.iso), not on the installed system.

I got hint it could be caused by plymouth, I'll verify it.
Strange, I'm not able to reproduce the problem any more (tested: openSUSE-Tumbleweed-KDE-Live-x86_64-Snapshot20240306-Media.iso openSUSE-Tumbleweed-KDE-Live-x86_64-Snapshot20240213-Media.iso).
