Bugzilla – Bug 1220689
VUL-0: CVE-2021-46968: kernel: s390/zcrypt: fix zcard and zqueue hot-unplug memleak
Last modified: 2024-05-23 15:57:07 UTC
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: s390/zcrypt: fix zcard and zqueue hot-unplug memleak Tests with kvm and a kmemdebug kernel showed, that on hot unplug the zcard and zqueue structs for the unplugged card or queue are not properly freed because of a mismatch with get/put for the embedded kref counter. This fix now adjusts the handling of the kref counters. With init the kref counter starts with 1. This initial value needs to drop to zero with the unregister of the card or queue to trigger the release and free the object. Closing since: - codestreams below cve/linux-5.14 are not affected - cve/linux-5.14, stable and SLE15-SP6 are already patched
Miroslav, we need to add the reference into all still supported branches where the patch with this commit exists. If it is in one branch only then it is perfectly fine to update just this one branch.
(In reply to Petr Mladek from comment #4) > Miroslav, we need to add the reference into all still supported branches > where the patch with this commit exists. If it is in one branch only then > it is perfectly fine to update just this one branch. I pushed for-next with the reference update.
I updated the CVE reference in SLE15-SP3-LTSS from where it should be merged into SLE15-SP3-RT. Reassigning back to security team.
