Unable to create KIO worker (KDE X11)
Last modified: 2024-03-14 10:58:07 UTC
After running `zypper up` a few minutes ago and doing a reboot the desktop greets me with ``` Unable to create KIO worker. Can not create a socket for launching a KIO worker for protokol 'desktop'. ``` and no icons are displayed. I have no idea what is causing this... The following updates were installed: ``` kernel-default 5.14.21-150500.55.52.1 libmaxminddb0 1.4.3-150000.1.8.1 libmetalink3 0.1.3-150000.3.2.1 libqrencode4 4.1.1-150000.3.3.1 libuv1 1.44.2-150500.3.2.1 x86_64 python3-bind 9.16.48-150500.8.18.1 kernel-default-extra 5.14.21-150500.55.52.1 wget 1.20.3-150000.3.17.1 x86_64 bind-utils 9.16.48-150500.8.18.1 kernel-default-optional 5.14.21-150500.55.52.1 wget-lang 1.20.3-150000.3.17.1 glibc 2.31-150300.68.1 glibc-extra 2.31-150300.68.1 glibc-info 2.31-150300.68.1 yast2-logs 4.5.26-150500.3.3.2 sudo 1.9.12p1-150500.7.10.1 sudo-plugin-python 1.9.12p1-150500.7.10.1 nscd 2.31-150300.68.1 glibc-locale-base 2.31-150300.68.1 glibc-lang 2.31-150300.68.1 glibc-devel 2.31-150300.68.1 ```
Does dolphin still work? Anything in the journal?
"QT_LOGGING_RULES=*.debug=true kioclient5 ls desktop://" might be helpful as well
`journalctl` doesn't mention 'kio' anywhere. I don't have `dolphin` installed (and I won't install it right now to avoid potential hiding of the problem, since it wants to install some other packages, too). The output of `QT_LOGGING_RULES=*.debug=true kioclient5 ls desktop://` is as below. Note that right now `chromium` (120.0.6099.224-bp155.2.70.1) also has a KIO problem; I get the same message as reported originally (with 'desktop' replaced by 'file') if I open a file dialog, and no files are listed. On the other hand, I don't have this problem with firefox (115.8.0-150200.152.126.3). ``` qt.qpa.xcb: Has MIT-SHM : true qt.qpa.xcb: Has MIT-SHM FD : true qt.qpa.xcb: Using XInput version 2.2 qt.qpa.screen: EDID data for output "eDP-1": identifier 'B173HAN04.2 -', manufacturer 'AU Optronics',model '', serial '', physical size: 380.00x220.00 qt.qpa.screen: Output DP-1 is not connected qt.qpa.screen: Output HDMI-1 is not connected qt.qpa.screen: Output HDMI-2 is not connected qt.qpa.screen: Output DP-2 is not connected qt.qpa.screen: Output HDMI-3 is not connected qt.qpa.screen: adding QXcbScreen(0x563f4f3767d0, name="eDP-1", geometry=1920x1080+0+0, availableGeometry=1920x1080+0+0, devicePixelRatio=1.0, logicalDpi=QPair(128.0,128.2), physicalSize=382.0x215.0mm, screenNumber=0, virtualSize=1920x1080 (1920.0x1080.0mm), orientation=Qt::LandscapeOrientation, depth=24, refreshRate=60.0, root=79c, windowManagerName="KWin") (Primary: true ) qt.qpa.screen: primary output is "eDP-1" qt.qpa.input.devices: input device Virtual core XTEST pointer ID 4 qt.qpa.input.devices: has 10 buttons qt.qpa.input.devices: has valuator "Rel X" recognized?
