Note regarding selected product/component/OS:
Unsure what category to put this in, but system this applies to is OpenSUSE MicroOS rolling release (without any GUI). Also unsure if selected component is technically correct. But hopefully someone can move it to the correct category if I have selected poorly here.

---

System:
- OS: OpenSUSE MicroOS kernel 6.8.5-1-default
- HW: HP HP Elite Tower 800 G9 Desktop

Repro steps:
- Disconnect network cable
- Wait for at least a few seconds
- Reconnect network cable (system will instantly freeze, and carrot will stop blinking on a directly connected monitor. System not pingable from remote.)

Issue description:

After update to version containing kernel `6.8.5-1-default` on Sunday 2024-04-14 we noticed that the entire computer will freeze when disconnecting network cable and then reconnecting it again (freeze occurs upon reconnection).
Issue was not present on the previous version with kernel `6.8.4-rc1-1-default` which we updated to on 2024-04-13, nor on any of the previous snapshots we tested.

To restore system, a hard restart e.g. by holding power button was required.

Watchdog did not restart the system automatically. But we are currently unsure if that was due to it being incapable, or if we have some misconfiguration in the watchdog.

See attached logfile for more info.
- Network cable was reconnected at ~06:52:10 (triggering freeze at 06:52:12).
- ("watchdog: BUG: soft lockup" reported first time at 06:52:39).

Did not manage to add two attachments so shortened version with notes was added.
Can upload full version instead if needed.
