Description SMASH SMASH 2024-04-18 07:21:45 UTC
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

block: Fix WARNING in _copy_from_iter

Syzkaller reports a warning in _copy_from_iter because an
iov_iter is supposedly used in the wrong direction. The reason
is that syzcaller managed to generate a request with
a transfer direction of SG_DXFER_TO_FROM_DEV. This instructs
the kernel to copy user buffers into the kernel, read into
the copied buffers and then copy the data back to user space.

Thus the iovec is used in both directions.

Detect this situation in the block layer and construct a new
iterator with the correct direction for the copy-in.

Backport submitted to SLE15-SP6 and SLE15-SP5.

SLE12-SP5 (Linux-4.12) and SLE12-SP3-TD (Linux-4.4) don't have data_source field in struct iov_iter, and no ITER_SOURCE, simply using WRITE to replace ITER_SOURCE seems not reliable. I am thinking of add 13f3956eb5681a4045a8dfdef48df5dc4d9f58a6 into blacklist.conf.

SLE15-SP5 doesn't have ITER_SOURCE neither. I plan to add it into blacklist.conf later.

Done. For SLE15-SP6, the patch applies. For rested branches, the patch doesn't apply, and I don't find a proper way to compose a rebased patch for the CVE fix.

That's all current state by my best effort.
