Bugzilla – Bug 127823
vmware workstation 5.5 segfaults
Last modified: 2005-10-24 10:03:32 UTC
From VMWare developer: JP, Alex asked me to email you about this. The bug is: http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=317549 and the fix went into 2.12.3 (and at least 2.12.4 is out already) but it was too late to make GNOME 2.12.1. The bug was that they rewrote a bunch of the code for handling filter elements and ended up with an unused variable that was being passed as the element id, but of course, that was now NULL, and then the library would blow up. On top of that, due to the way they code is written, this bug existed for each handler for each filter element. I submitted a patch that fixed the handler for gaussian blurs (the only FE we use) but Dom fixed all of them in his actual checkin. Thanks, --phil
Gary, we should pull the complete patch from upstream.

I think regarding this some communication was done via eMail? Gary, could you please comment on this issue to enlighten me :-) thx
We need to patch the librsvg package in 10.0 so that the beta of VMWARE 5.5 won't crash on SUSE 10. I'll attach the proposed patch here.
Created attachment 53948 [details] Proposed patch
I was approached in person at a conference last week about the problem by the vmware guys. The mail in #1 is the sum total of the email conversation. Gary, the patch looks about right - we can have the VMWare guys test the new package as well to make certain it solves their problem.
I propose to test first, JP, will you please take care and inform me afterwards?
Packages for testing on ix86 are at /suse/gekker/src/10.0/PACKAGES/librsvg*.rpm
The vmware guys reports this solves their issue. Requesting swamp ID.
