Bugzilla – Bug 128359
DVB-s cards not supported with SUSE 10.0 Live DVD
Last modified: 2005-10-17 06:34:39 UTC
Despite there is plenty of space left on the SUSE 10.0 Live DVD there is no support of DVB-s cards implemented. Meaning, anyone who runs a Windows system with such card, will not know whether SUSE 10.0 supports DVB at all when trying out the live DVD. (Which is fair, because it does not support DVB out of the box, it needs a lot of manual intervention to get DVB running on any version of SUSE.) Technically there is reason for this limitation (viz www.kanotix.com, where you have extensive automatic DVB support both through live CD! and through hard disk installation.
Technically there is NO reason ... (sorry for the typo)
Certainly not installer related.
Please add your proposal to the package-Wishlist at opensuse.org: http://www.opensuse.org/Package_Wishlist Closing this.
Sorry, should I ask for a package that autoinstalls the proper DVB drivers? The issue here is that unlike other peripherals DVB cards are not installed automatically, as one would expect from a user-friendly distribution. What package would it be then? Aren't we talking about autodetecting this hardware during installation?
So is opensuse the place to ask for automatic installation of PC peripherals?
We're sorry, but an out-of-the-box-support for DVB-cards is not possible at the moment, because it would require proprietary decoder-software which we're not allowed to ship (at the moment at least). Sorry about that. This comes from an authentic source, so please don't reopen this bug. Future bugs about that will also be closed until a solution has been found.
