No package in a basic system requries the kernel to be installed; something should require "kernel", maybe glibc?
Comment 1 Hubert Mantel 2005-10-28 15:20:48 UTC
Why? Where exactly is your problem?
Comment 2 Hubert Mantel 2005-10-28 15:37:41 UTC
Since this "problem" cannot be fixed in the kernel packages anyway, re-assigning to glibc maintainer ;)
Comment 3 Thorsten Kukuk 2005-10-28 15:41:52 UTC
Why should any package require the kernel? This would be plain stupid and wrong.
We don't need a kernel installed, we only need a kernel running. Only think about all of this virtual machines which are more or less chroot systems.

ok, fair enough. I ran into this when trying to customize a very small image for a customer.
