On a freshly installed system rcgpm start gives

# rcgpm start
Neither the variables MOUSEDEVICE and MOUSETYPE nor the variable GPM_PARAM
is set in /etc/sysconfig/mouse

Worked in earlier distributions

Not my fault, the YaST guys decided not to configure gpm during graphical
installation any longer.
