Description Haakon Eriksen 2005-10-31 20:25:42 UTC
I ordered an IBM Thinkpad t42p because the hardware was sertified with Novell SuSE Linux 9.3, thinking it would be an excellent hardware platform to try the evolved OpenSuSE 10.1 Alpha 2 from the 5 provided CDs. Thank you for documenting the hardware detection bug and the font cache update bug on opensuse.org!

Unfortunately, I cannot use the Synaptics Touchpad. Detection and setup seems to be fine, yet if I use it for than a minute, mouse arrow movement stops and the keyboard is unaccessable. This happens using both GNOME and KDE. It effectively freezes all input. I've tried many times, and the only way sitting at the console is to hold down the power button till the laptop turns off. The t42p does not have a regular PS/2 slot, so I'll have to get a USB mouse before I can try another mouse.

Do you know a work-around? Which logs should I look in to find mouse errors?

Sorry, should have been "for more than a minute" and "the keyboard is inaccessible".

Here is the certification document at Novell, which led to my purchase of the IBM Thinkpad t42p. The only difference is another gigabyte of RAM, so I have 2 Gb.

I give up on this one, and will first try 10.0 on the t42p.

I have now installed opensuse 10.0 GM, and want to report that there are no problems with the touchpad. Somewhere between 10.0 and 10.1 alpha2 something got broken.

Closing old LATER+REMIND bugs as WONTFIX - if you still plan to work on it, feel free to reopen and set to ASSIGNED.

In case the report saw repeated reopen comments, it's due to bugzilla timing out on the huge request ;(
