Description Heiko Schmidt 2005-11-03 13:16:29 UTC
I installed openSuSE 10.0 on a laptopwith a phillips tv-card saa 7134 chipset.
The card was identified right but no /dev/dvb was created.
A device /dev/video0 and vbi0 was created, but when I start kaffeine and configure it it told me no dvb-card is available.

I attache some files, for supporting error-detection.

I hope this helps

Please attach the yast-logfiles after you (re)configured your card as well as `hwinfo --tv'. Attach the logfiles in an uncompressed form, please (specially no Microsoft formats).

Comment 6 Ladislav Slezák 2005-11-04 12:08:22 UTC
Umm, if it's a DVB card it should be reported by 'hwinfo --dvb' instead of 'hwinfo --tv'. Please, attach 'hwinfo --dvb' output.
Comment 7 Heiko Schmidt 2005-11-04 20:33:12 UTC
hwinfo --dvb produces no output
/et/udev/udev.conf has no DVB entry
/dev/.udevdb/ has no dvb-entry
Comment 8 Ladislav Slezák 2006-01-04 13:42:08 UTC
Steffen, DVB device is not reported by hwinfo. I don't know properties of the card.

Heiko, what is the card model? Is it hybrid (anolog + digital) or digital only?
Comment 9 Heiko Schmidt 2006-01-05 12:59:34 UTC
Hi

it´s a hybrid card
Comment 10 Ladislav Slezák 2006-01-05 13:19:20 UTC
Thanks, the problem is in hwinfo which doesn't report DVB function of the card.
Comment 11 Steffen Winterfeldt 2006-01-09 13:55:58 UTC
Hm, I see only the saa7134 thing, which looks like a TV card to me.

Gerd, could you comment on this, please?
Comment 12 Gerd Hoffmann 2006-01-09 15:04:22 UTC
saa7134 cards can be both pure analog and analog/digital hybrid cards, as usual you need a list of PCI Subsystem IDs to know ...

IIRC the hwinfo list was updated just before the 10.0 release, so it should be ok in theory (i.e. the hwinfo list matches the saa7134 driver capabilities).

Heiko: Try "modprobe saa7134-dvb". If that works, then the hwinfo list is outdated. If it doesn't work most likely the card simply isn't supported by the saa7134 driver version included in 10.0.
Comment 13 Heiko Schmidt 2006-01-16 23:29:04 UTC
Thanks for info, but even when I loaded saa7134-dvb there ´s no device for dvb. Nicer in /dev nore presented by hwinfo --dvb.
Comment 14 Gerd Hoffmann 2006-01-27 16:30:47 UTC
The kernel driver simply doesn't support your card (yet) then.
