Bugzilla – Bug 132881
Slightly unclear message for media check
Last modified: 2021-02-18 14:38:00 UTC
I think this message was in 10.0 also and I never really got it ... You cannot change the medium if it is used by the system. If it happens during installation, start manual installation ... If it happens what?? That a media is defective?
No, in some conditions you cannot change the medium because it is in use (the root file system is mounted when the system has low memory). Rebecca, are the sentences too complicated? What do you suggest?
I think I need some more information about when the user sees this message. Can you give me some example situations of when this opens?
Ladislav, please take care of this...
Sorry, with everything else that has happened this release, we lost track of this bug. We will fix it, but the fix will not appear until a later release. Changing it now would break translations.
Closing as LATER...
Reopening so we can resolve before next product
Ladislav, do you have time for us to work on this issue? If I understand correctly, this pop-up appears when you try to change the medium to check another one while it is mounted. Is this correct? If so, can we say something like: "The medium is currently mounted so cannot be changed. To check a series of media during installation, start manual installation..." (whatever else more we say here)
I agree, as I was going to report this error. During installation, the left hand panel of the "Media Check" screen says this. As Rebecca reported, I have no idea what the second "it" means - "If it happens" - what is the 'it' being talked about? Personally, I don't think this entire Note belongs on the Media Check page. I don't think it (ha ha) applies to the media check.
Ladislav, any news here?
I propose this text: // help text - media check 6/7 _("<P><B>Note:</B> You cannot change the medium while it is used by the system. To check a series of media during installation, start manual installation and select the media verification item in the menu.</P> ") I hope it is better...
Oh, openSUSE-11.0 has slightly changed the installation workflow, media check is present in the boot menu, the yast module is not part of the installation anymore. There should be this text: // help text - media check 6/8 _("<P><B>Note:</B> You cannot change the medium while it is used by the system.</P>") + // help text - media check 7/8 _("<P>To check media before starting installation use the media check item in the boot menu.</P>") +
Fixed in yast2-packager-2.16.28
Update released for: yast2-packager Products: openSUSE 11.2 (i586, x86_64)
