Description Danny Al-Gaaf 2005-11-09 13:01:53 UTC
While installation I tried to set for root user a password with '#' (e.g.: 11tomate#11), but I alway get a error message that I only should use allowed characters (but '#') is in the list of allowed.
Comment 1 Jiří Suchomel 2005-11-10 07:49:20 UTC
definitely not a critical
Comment 2 Jiří Suchomel 2005-11-10 07:57:40 UTC
I cannot reproduce it, please attach the log files.

Comment 3 Danny Al-Gaaf 2005-11-10 13:13:42 UTC
hm ... I investigated the problem a littlebit and it looks like again a problem with wrong keyboard layout while german installation.

Comment 5 Jiří Suchomel 2005-11-10 14:09:20 UTC
ok, I cannot see anything from logs (and in case the statement from comment #3 is true, I couldn't). Closing as invalid, please reopen if you are able to reproduce the bug.
Comment 6 Danny Al-Gaaf 2005-11-10 18:38:07 UTC
Btw. why do I get a wrong keyboard layout? In the past this worked correct.
Comment 7 Jiří Suchomel 2005-11-11 07:04:24 UTC
And what do you mean by "wrong"? According to the logs, you have set german keyboard.
Comment 8 Danny Al-Gaaf 2005-11-11 17:48:24 UTC
Yes, I this is what I wan't, but it was not what I get. IMO the keyboard layout of this USB Kexboard was set to US Layout.
Comment 9 Jiří Suchomel 2005-11-14 09:38:46 UTC
Looks like we are going in circles.

1. Your original report was that root password with '#' is not allowed. On my test installation, I can use # in password without problems. So I assume this is not the real problem. From the logs, I am not able to see which password did you really use (passwords are not logged), so the bug can be only valid if you describe the way how to reproduce it. (-> currently INVALID)

2. In comment #3 you stated that it might be a problem with different keyboard layout. Well, that might be the problem, when you think you are using us layout, while actually entering some language specific characters instead of # (just for example, for czech layout it would be 'č' :-)) - which is not allowed in the password. -> INVALID

3. But if "wrong" means US, what did you really entered as the root password? NEEDINFO, again
Comment 10 Danny Al-Gaaf 2005-11-14 10:31:01 UTC
What I sad is: this is maybe not the problem of '#' in the password, because the system used the wrong keyboard layout! This mean: I selected a german installation, changed nothing on the keyboard layout and get not the german layout on the USB-Keyboard. It looks as if I had get a US-Keyboard layout instead of the expected german layout. Because of this I used a not allowed character in the password.

Btw. Maybe the focus of the bug is changed. I change the summary of the bug.
Comment 11 Jiří Suchomel 2005-11-14 11:25:28 UTC
I wonder which character from US Layout you could use to be invalid.

But anyway - the logfiles say that you have used german layout; could you please attach /etc/sysconfig/langauge and /etc/sysconfig/keyboard to see if anything on the installed system is wrong?

Comment 14 Jiří Suchomel 2005-11-14 14:24:17 UTC
You have german keyboard in /etc/sysconfig/keyboard, you have it selected according to the log files, so where's the problem?

Are you able to reproduce whole bug?
Comment 15 Danny Al-Gaaf 2005-11-14 16:58:40 UTC
One of the problems as I sad: I have US-Layout in KDM and on tty-console and not as selected german layout. If I start Yast and try to change the keyboard layout there is only a empty list. I can't change the settings in YaST.
Comment 16 Jiří Suchomel 2005-11-15 08:38:02 UTC
Where do you start YaST and see the empty list? On console or in X?
Can you attach the y2logs after yast2 was started this way?
Comment 17 Danny Al-Gaaf 2005-11-15 16:21:50 UTC
This happend on console with the ncurses YaST, not tested under X. The machine is today not available, I attach the log later/tomorrow.

I must reinstall the system now with Alpha3 I try to reproduce this there
Comment 19 Jiří Suchomel 2005-11-16 14:42:08 UTC
According to the latest logs it looks like problem is cause by the problems of hardware detection introduced in Alpha 2. I'll wait for you reproduce attempt.
Comment 20 Danny Al-Gaaf 2005-11-16 19:33:33 UTC
I tried to reproduce with Alpha3. All works fine there, no problems. I think you can close the bug.
