Description Peter Bordacs 2005-11-11 09:25:48 UTC
Sorry I can't good in English :(

I have an SuSE 10.0 with OpenOffice "2.0-pre build 1.9.125.1.2" version (by default).
This computer with SuSE and OpenOffice is a part of a LAN with few Windows PC-s.

My problem is the following: I will open some MS Word (.doc) document from the shared folders of Windows computers.
The best way for this only browse on the network in this way: Network browsing (icon in he SuSE desktop)->SMB Sharing -> choosing workgroup -> the network's computers shown here -> I select the comupter -> I choose from the shared folders and I click a Word document (.doc).

The error message is the following:

Read-error.
Error reading file.

When I tried an XLS (Excel) or PPT (Powerpoint) file everything ok, the OpenOffice is opened with the file from a Windows shared folder. This problem present is only .doc (Word) format:

The folder's mounting is not good for me. My users have too much shared folders. The network browsing is the better solution.

The file names of .doc files doesn't contains extra characters not long file names.
When I copy this Word document from a shared folder from a Windows machine to a local folder (e.g. desktop) and click it the OpenOffice Writer is open it without problem. This file from a shared Windows folder is not opened sad.gif

The "mount //windows-pc-name/folder /mnt/foldername" solution is not good for me. No end of the shared folders in my network.

I updated the OpenOffice from version: "2.0-pre build 1.9.125.1.2" to "2.0.0.1-1" (latest?) but the problem is not resolved :(

Hm... I tried that an another way...

I started the OpenOffice Writer -> File -> Open -> Network Folders -> SMB Shares -> Workgroup -> Choose PC from network -> Select shared folder and .doc file and click "open".

When I modified the file and save it the file saved in the local computer not to a network folder :(
When I tried "Save as" and I browse the netrok folder I become an error message: SMB protocol not supported.

What is this? This is an OpenOffice error or a SuSE error? When OpenOffice error then in the next bulid has resolved this? Can I come in the future a solution?

Can we expect the solution of this problem in the near futute? Does anybody know about it?

Thanks,
Peter

PS: From this newtork folder the Openoffice Writer is working fine with .sxw file!
