If the system is configured for password authentication using an LDAP server and the LDAP server cannot be reached (eg. becuase TLS is activated and the server does not support TLS), NO login (not even for local user 'root') is possible. Login simply times out after 60 seconds.

Also happens on Alpha4 if LDAP is on and the network happens to be down.
