Description Dennis Barrett 2005-11-27 00:27:22 UTC
Ok,

I start (amaroK) or any other player, including Xine and audio does not work. Keep in mind my system sounds work perfectly fine, just no "media" will play. I have amaroK using the Xine engine, with no other engines installed. Whenever I use Xine, when I close the xine program, my system restarts. Ive attempted to use the online update, however it does not work, not able to use the given source.

AMD Athlon 700MHz
SuSE Linux 10.0.42 (Alpha)

If you mean about mp3, it doesn't work with xine engine without mad library.

The system restart appears like a more servere problem. What do you mean exactly "system restart"? Does it reboot or the crash of X?

More specifically. I open Xine, try to open a file and it does not work, even
after installing all required codecs and plugins which is only part of the
problem with it. The main thing that is happening on my  machine is when I
close Xine, I get knocked out of my current session and asked to login again.
I  thought system was restarting,   but in actuality it is causing me to
restart my session. This happens every time I close Xine. As far as the files
not playing,  this is because Xine seems to not recognize the codecs or
plugins.

P.S. Mad library has been installed. I removed the Xine version included with
the Alpha version (which I love) and installed an older version to see if
that helps, but it doesnt, on every occasion when I close Xine it asks me to
login to my session again.

P.P.S   When I say it asks me to login to my system I mean that, when I close
Xine, suddenly my screen goes black, X server restarts, then I am at the
login screen again. My current session has been closed and I am forced to
login to a new session.

Let me know if you want me to tweak anything, I am willing. Thanks.

Also, my online updates are not working. Is this something normal?

Yast works fine but Control Center will not open, but even when it would open,
none of the settings would take.   Can change default email client or
whatever, system does not take it.

I have formatted and reinstalled twice, does not help.

Hmm, all these sound really weird. Seems more like a xine problem.
Reassigned to xine maintainer...

This bug is marked for 10.0 beta 1 - which is way old.
Either you mean 10.1 (which beta?), or you should try 10.1 beta 8 first.

xine works for me. amarok on 10.1b8 has known problems if xine-mad isn't installed.

Any news?

Also, one idea I have: try starting xine with 'xine -V xshm'. It seems to me that it is not the audio plugin, but the video output plugin that triggers the server restart. In that case, this should be two seperate bug reports.

No input for over a month -> closing as WONTFIX.

Please feel free to reopen if the bug persists and you'd like to continue to help (check comment #4 first, SL10.1rc2 is the current version, maybe wait for SL10.1 final before checking). I wasn't exactly responsive at first as well.
