Description S. Handgraaf 2005-11-29 16:00:11 UTC
Managing hardware does not support management of network devices. Yet, management of network devices can be done from network management, but it is missing hardware management features presented under the normal hardware management module.

could you please explain a case what you want to do? thanks.
Comment 2 S. Handgraaf 2005-12-01 01:55:37 UTC
Sure, hope this help explaining the problem:
Start status: both network devices (10/100 ethernet & wlan minipci) are detected on installation and with yast2 gui set to activate on boot.

There are several network devices reported when I run ifconfig and iwconfig:
#ifconfig: eth0, eth1, lo
#iwconfig:
lo: no wireless extensions
eth0, wifi0 : both show same wireless network (configuration) details
eth1: no wireless extensions
sit0: no wireless extensions

Now the problem:
"yast2 lan" under the left yast2 'network devices' tab/button is here to show configurations of, and manage the, network devices.
It fails to show all device info, aspecially what alias is part of one of the devices, nor management for this.
This while "yast hwinfo" under the left yast2 'hardware' tab/button shows under 'network card' two cards here. Also under 'network interface' details for 'network ethernet interface' (eth0,eth1), 'loopback network interface', 'network interface' (wifi0, sit0). Here in yast2 I can whats part of what and also that sit0 does not even have any class (spec) nor hardware address information.

I would expect when managing network hardware it should be possible to view all configuration, including all devices, aliasses and how it is part of what, be able to remove devices or aliasses not used.

(besides this, sit0 did only show up once under network devices when I run yast2 in console mode but has disapeard since and is now only to be found in 'hardware info'. New bug for this?)

not sure if this is design or not, so assigning it to the maintainer :-)
Comment 4 S. Handgraaf 2005-12-01 15:15:35 UTC
Thank you Martin.
Comment 5 Martin Vidner 2006-08-28 11:52:31 UTC
Reassigning to the new maintainer of yast2-network.
Comment 6 Michal Zugec 2007-05-11 11:41:35 UTC
Yes, I got it, finally
When you add new virtual host, you need to add virtual_host_name (there is button for this). Remove your yast2_vhosts.conf file and try it again.

This bug is because validation is missing, I will fix it.
