Bugzilla – Bug 136819
32bit Netscape plug-in support package for KDE missing
Last modified: 2006-01-31 23:17:52 UTC
SUSE 10.0 only seems to contain the 'kdebase3-nsplugin64' package on 64bit installations. Therefore Macromedia Flash does not work in Konqueror. Flash certainly worked in Konqueror under 64bit 9.3 and there have been reports of successfully running it in 10.0 after installing the 32bit 'kdebase3-nsplugin' package using 'apt'. Therefore the package should be reincluded.
the package is in 10.0 - no idea what you installed and you didn't say
My installation source was the x86_64 10.0 Eval DVD. I have double-checked the DVD, there are no 'kdebase3-nsplugin64-3.5.0-15.x86_64' or 'kdebase3-nsplugin-3.5.0-15.x86_64' packages available on it at all. The 'kdebase3-nsplugin64-3.5.0-15.x86_64' package I have installed now origins from the official KDE 3.5 update, as available e.g. from 'ftp://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/suse/x86_64/supplementary/KDE/update_for_10.0/base'. The 32bit package is however not available there either. As Flash is 32bit, it is therefore not working in KDE (Konqueror).
Correction of the above: The KDE version number of the missing packages should of course be the 3.4.x branch, nevertheless, the nsplugin packages are not there.
not sure which exact media you are referring to , but there should be the file "./CD1/suse/i586/kdebase3-nsplugin-3.4.2-26.i586.rpm" if this is a biarch x86/x86_64 installation media. This i586 package is the one required to make a 32bit browser-plugin like flash work. Installing it will probably pull in a set of "-32bit..." packages, that's ok. Or do you have a x86_64-only DVD media ?
As stated above, the installation medium is a x86_64 10.0 Eval DVD. It contains only the x86_64 RPMs (apart from a few selected packages such as Java) and no 'kdebase3-nsplugin*.rpm' file(s) whatsoever. If it is intentional that 32bit Konqueror plug-ins are missing in this release, it should at least be stated somewhere, as was done with the page showing differences between the full and OSS version ( http://www.novell.com/coolsolutions/tip/16015.html ).
no, it is not intentional that the package is missing, it was a bug. I think I have fixed the internal configuration so this will work for the next release. you can get the package from http://ftp.opensuse.org/pub/opensuse/distribution/SL-10.0-OSS/inst-source/suse/i586/kdebase3-nsplugin-3.4.2-26.i586.rpm Joe, since you wrote the "differences article": want to include some hint about this in there ?
(In reply to comment #6) > Joe, since you wrote the "differences article": > want to include some hint about this in there ? According to the URL in comment #6 it shows it being included in tne OSS version. The document I wrote was about packages that are only on the retail version and not on the OSS version. Therefore it doesn't really make sense to include it does it? Please let me know if I am misunderstanding.
package is in 10.1 beta2, closing
