Bugzilla – Bug 137092
Web Rhapsody doesn't work in Firefox 1.0.7
Last modified: 2006-08-16 05:56:40 UTC
The new Web based version of the Rhapsody is meant to work with Linux. It requires Firefox 1.5 After installing Firefox 1.5 on Suse 10.0 and launching the popup player, the error message is: "We're sorry but the combination of your operating system and Firefox 1.5 is not currently supported." Yet, a friend of mine can run Web Rhapsody fine on Ubuntu Linux using the Firefox just fine.
I neither know what Rhapsody is without any hint and again I'm pretty sure that it is an application bug. Is it just reading the useragent?

Is it just reading the useragent? > Rhapsody is a subscription music service from Real Networks. They used to have a Windows-only client application, but made their service available via the web just yesterday. The site is http://www.rhapsody.com You can get a free account if you want to test with it or just ask me questions. The idea is that it works with Firefox 1.5 on Windows. It also works on Ubuntu (this is from multiple sources), but not on Suse. I have tried using both the RPM from Suse and also the native Firefox download. Two of the Ubuntu users said they were using 1.0.7, and I tried installing that older version. It still didn't work but the problem was different in that case it came up with just a blank screen on the popup window (instead of an error message). This is really frustrating since I've been waiting for Rhapsody to be Linux compatible for months and now my favorite distro seems to be having problems just running it. What do you mean by "user-agent" ?
So actually you said that the SUSE RPM doesn't work and the original mozilla.com provided one also doesn't work. And you think that's because SUSE Linux 10.0. So all I can say about it is: We simply don't know why the web application doesn't accept our Firefox because it's only a decision of the web application and it's almost impossible to find out why because I only can see that their server is telling us that we are not compatible. So the server decided with whatever information, that we aren't compatible. Nothing we can do here. Please contact Real about it and feel free to point them to that bug.

I've confirmed that it's a bug only with the Suse version (RPM) of Firefox 1.0.7 on your web site...so it's a Suse bug, and not a Real bug. I downloaded the generic Firefox 1.0.7 from Mozilla and installed and Rhapsody performed perfectly. Also, I solicited several users on the alt.os.linux.suse bulletin board and they were able to confirm my results. You may want to take a second look at your Mozilla builds to see if they are up to par.
OK, let's begin again: Summary of this bug states that 1.5 doesn't work. Now you talk about 1.0.7. You speak about "your website". What site do you mean? YOU, ftp.suse.com/pub/projects/mozilla or what? If it doesn't work with 1.0.7, does it work with 1.5 or not?

YOU, > ftp.suse.com/pub/projects/mozilla or what? > If it doesn't work with 1.0.7, does it work with 1.5 or not? > Ok, yes, I muddled it up. So let's start from the beginning. (1) Forget 1.5 -- apparently it's acknowledge by Real that the Rhapsody website does not work with Firefox 1.5 on Linux; only on Windows. (2) This bug should be about Firefox 1.0.7 (3) The issue is: When trying to access the web interface for the Rhapsody online music service, http://www.rhapsody.com, the pop-up window, that lets you log into the service, does not function correctly when using the Firefox 1.0.7 build that comes with the Suse distro. (4) If you use the generic Firefox 1.0.7 build that can be downloaded from Mozilla, then the Rhapsody website works fine; I can log in and play music. (5) This makes me suspect there are build problems in the Mozilla Firefox 1.0.7 that was created by Suse.
We switched to Firefox 1.5.0.x now.
