Bugzilla – Bug 137961
PCMCIA Cardbus Video Card requires manual Sound Routing for sound to work
Last modified: 2008-06-25 09:53:09 UTC
When using the SAA7134 chipset as provided in the Dick Smith at the this link http://www.dse.co.nz/cgi-bin/dse.filereader?439a9d1f03ab8042273fc0a87f99071e+EN/catalogs/SUPXH8283 a couple of manual commands are required to get sound to run as follows. Unload saa7134 (rmmod saa7134), then load it with modprobe saa7134 oss=1 then the following sox command, sox ‑c 2 ‑s ‑w ‑r 32000 ‑t ossdsp /dev/dsp1 ‑t ossdsp /dev/dsp (you may need to adapt the /dev/dsp1 for your devices. This is apparently required for all SAA7134 cardbus cards according to the v4l mailing list, not just the dick smith card mentioned here.
Note that new 2.6 kernels have also the ALSA driver for saa7134 chipset, so it will be better to wait for 10.1 beta and retest. Maybe, the initialization bug might be also fixed in recent kernel.
Setting status to NEEDINFO because we now have the convention of changing all bugs which have been looked at from NEW to some other appropriate status (e. g. ASSIGNED if the bug is valid and is bing looked at), which makes scanning for unhandled bugs and general status check much faster since individual bugs do not have to be opened when the correct status is shown in the bug list.
So if this were an appropriate status (which you are saying it is) then you would need info. The only thing additional I can think of providing is to test under 10.1. It just so happens that I can do that, so will attempt to do so sometime in the near future, (when I find that pesky card somewhere).
Reopen, if it does not work with latest opensuse.
mass reopening all SuSE Linux bugs that are set to REMIND+LATER to change the resolution to WONTFIX (adapting to new policy)
Closing old LATER+REMIND bugs as WONTFIX - if you still plan to work on it, feel free to reopen and set to ASSIGNED. In case the report saw repeated reopen comments, it's due to bugzilla timing out on the huge request ;(
