Bugzilla – Bug 138064
Change default settings for wired connections
Last modified: 2008-07-14 08:13:20 UTC
When editing the characteristics for Ethernet connections, the default to start the device is 'At boot' I feel it makes sense to change this default to 'When connected' (an additionally installing the package ifplugd). It saves a lot of waiting time if the cable is not connected (esp. on laptops etc) and prevents the more newbie user from unexpected messages (because he expects the same behaviour as used from another operating system)
This should be already the case. Which version are you using?
10.0
We're not changing the defaults here anymore.
In fact I implemented it shortly after 10.0 came out.
Reopen for 11.1. After some five installations of 11.0 final *all* initial network settings were at boot time - not really ideal for a laptop use
The laptop case is usually solved by using NetworkManager, which should be preselected by default on laptops, IIRC. Anyway, reassigning to the current maintainer.
Correct, as explained here: http://en.opensuse.org/YaST/installation-network#Types_of_network_control default method for laptops is controled by NetworkManager and this is in conflict with STARTMODE=ifplugd
