Since SuSE doesn't support mp3s out of the box and things are rather complicated on this issue, I propose to create a FAQ on this issue.
Here are some questions that should be included:

Why SuSE doesn't play mp3 files out of the box?
Which files do I need to play mp3 music? Where can I find them?
What is Amarok? 
What is the helix engine?
How can I rip a music CD?
How can I encode music to mp3?
Can I connect my MP3 player to Linux?
What is ogg and theora?
What about music files purchased on-line?

I hope to see this FAQ rather quickly.
